I got this mask as a free gift with purchase from Beauteque and although I typically don't buy the cloth types of masks I wanted to give it a try because I am intrigued by the sake yeast. It's hard to find any information about what sake's does for the skin and the ingredients are not in English unfortunately I can't read it-but I can tell you that it feels very refreshing, he ingredients don't feel greasy or heavy and the mask adheres really well and unlike some other masks that I've used that I mouth and nose pieces are already punched out which is nice because I hate to handle them too much with my fingers before I put them on my face and risk breakouts. Overall it's a great mask but because I typically don't use masks like he's due to my own oily skin I wouldn't purchase. Before I discarded it I squeezed out the excess and used it as a lotion (it was plenty saturated!)

Are Enzyme Peels a Scam?
I am a huge fan of enzyme exfoliating peels so I wanted this to be the first review I do in a series on enzyme peels. I fell in love with Sesha but hated the price tag and I have tried so many and to may dismay, this one is a thumbs in the middle. I first learned of Cailyn by getting their Acid Pink lippy in an ipsy bag and I am a HUGE fan. However I am stumped because although this product is labeled as an enzyme peel, it doesn’t seem to contain any enzymes.
Lets look at the evidence.
from cailyncosmetics.com “This unique peeling system is formulated with papaya extract, which dissolves dull skin cells to improve smoothness and brightness.“
Now, lets break down the evidence, Again from their website, “Aqua, Cetrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Juglans Regia Shell Powder, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, DMDM Hydantoin, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, D-Limonene“
The obvious ones like aqua, aloe, glycerin we can rule out automatically. The second most obvious are Juglans Regia Shell Powder which according to EWS Cosmetic Database it is Persian Walnut Shell Powder and gives the following results for these ingredients.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil- Argan Kernel Oil (Argan Oil?
interesting to note that the EWS classifies Tocoheryl Acetate as “Suspected to be an environmental toxin and be persistent or bioaccumulative (uncertainty in environmental toxicity or persistence/bioaccumulation)“ YIKES!
I do not see any ingredient like Papaya enzyme in the ingredients, but here is the kicker, IT STILL SEEMED TO WORK! It had more or less the same properties and behaved in the same way as other enzyme cleansers and skin care with enzymes, It was gel, then liquid, then rubbed into the typical balls. My skin was soft, and my pores felt clean. In terms of effectiveness, it was like many others. My only complaint would be that the jojoba oil leaves a film on my skin that bothers me and I think that using jojoba oil in a cleanser warrants unnecessary emulsifiers and just doesnt make chronological sense.
THE BIG QUESTION
Are they all scams, am I missing an ingredient. I will be emailing Cailyn for clarification and will update if I hear back!
THANK YOU FOR READING MY FIRST POST!!!! i CANT WAIT TO SHARE MORE FRUGAL AND AWESOME FINDS WITH YOU! The EWS is a great database for all the ingredients in this and almost all other formulas and ingredients.
